When learning a Torah reading at a higher level, emphasizing words on the correct syllable is critical. There are multiple factors that indicate how a word should be emphasized. Take note of them and try to focus on stressing each word on the correct syllable.
- Placement of the trope: The location of a word on which the trope is placed lets you know where you should emphasize the trope on that word. Additionally, some tropes may appear multiple times on a given word which indicates that the word is emphasized in a place where the trope is not usually on the word.

- Meteg:Â A Meteg is a small vertical line that appears under a word and indicates emphasis within the word.

Trope Sequences
Certain trope sets often lead into others, and there are rules about what tropes are allowed to follow each other.
- Sof Pasuk Rules: Before a phrase that ends with a Sof Pasuk, there are certain trope sets that are allowed to come prior to it.
   - Possible sets:Â
Learning which trope sets are allowed to follow each other will allow you to prepare your Torah Readings faster because you will be able to anticipate possible trope sets that are upcoming.

Strategy for Learning
As a beginner, going back and forth from vowels side to Torah side is effective and helps with memory. However, this can be time consuming and not as necessary for an advanced Torah Reader. Many high-level Torah Readers are able to learn a reading with only a few days to practice because they are efficient in how they learn it.
One strategy is that in the week leading up to your reading, go over the entire Torah Reading from beginning to end once a day. This repetition throughout the week strengthens your memory, and when you sit down to learn the entire reading, it will take significantly less time because of the memory you have built up.
